Introducing Fife Bird Club (FBC)Formed in July of 1985 by a group of keen birdwatchers wanting to provide more information and better facilities for those interested in the birds of mainland Fife. The Club has grown to include several hundred members, with over a third of these actually living outwith Fife. The membership includes persons with a variety of interests and expertise and members are encouraged to get involved at all levels of the Club activities - nest box schemes, species recording & censuses, bird-ringing, habitat management and conservation work. The Club holds indoor meetings throughout the year, at the Dean Park Hotel in Kirkcaldy, with visiting speakers from a wide variety of organisations and backgrounds. There is also a programme of regular outings to visit venues in Fife and the adjacent regions, and an annual field trip further afield, with more recent destinations including Dumfries & Galloway, Islay, the Uists and Barra, Orkney, Speyside, East Yorkshire and Norfolk.
Aims of the Fife Bird Clubv To advance the education of the general public in the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of ornithology. v To promote research in ornithology and improve co-operation between birdwatchers engaged in these pursuits, and publish the useful results of any such research. v To provide for the publication of a regular bulletin/newsletter and assist in the production of an annual Fife Bird Report. v To organise field outings, lectures and indoor meetings. v To co-operate and assist in the work of other individuals and organisations with similar aims and objectives and pursuing charitable activities concerned with the ornithology of Fife and its neighbouring areas. *** Members receive a copy of the annual Fife Bird Report *** A quarterly newsletter - 'Scope' - is distributed giving up-to-date club news and articles by members.
