BRAEFOOT PLANTATION AND POINT
Shell UK have granted Fife Bird Club members access to the Braefoot Plantation. Access to the site was originally for the use of a Club Hide, a Pill Box kindly converted by Shell UK. Sadly due to continuous vandalism the hide has been permanently sealed. Braefoot Point is a very good vantage point for the autumn skua passage and it also provides a good view into the Bay to the west, for wintering divers and ducks. The plantation has a good mixture of common woodland species. The Club also runs a Nest Box scheme in the plantation and woodlands surrounding the terminal at Braefoot. Parking and Access: Members should park on the verge of the main access road to the terminal in the area where the coastal footpath bisects the roadway. There is no vehicular access along the coastal pathway/road and all parking in the area is to be undertaken with due care and consideration to others using the coastal pathway. From the parking area take the coastal footpath at the aerial down the west side of the field towards the plantation and point (see map). Speed limits; on Terminal access road must be strictly adhered to. Pedestrian access: Members can also approach the site by walking along the coastal footpath from either Dalgety Bay or Aberdour.
Sightings: There is no logbook for the site, so please submit your sightings with your annual records to the County Recorder. It would also be appreciated if news of uncommon or unusual species seen could be passed, as soon as possible, to the Newsletter editor for inclusion in the Recent Reports, thank you.
The Fife Bird Club and Shell UK will accept no liability or responsibility for any injury or loss to any member or other parties arising from the use of the area. © Fife Bird Club November 2002
